Adult Astronomy Course: Astronomical Concepts

**SOLD OUT** 14 February – 4 April 2017, 6–8.30pm

Make 2017 an astronomical year with a short course held at Sydney Observatory. These courses are suitable for adults and senior students (years 11 and 12).

Astronomical Concepts is an 8-week course that explores the concepts that underpin our understanding of the universe. From the planets to the stars and the cosmos, a few simple concepts help explain much of what we observe in the universe today.

Taught by popular astronomy educator Dr Paul Payne, Astronomical Concepts also introduces some of the more elaborate theories, like quantum physics and relativity, and applies them to the latest discoveries in astronomy. Aided with the latest in 3D stereo graphics, the complex is made simple and your understanding of the universe is given a new enlightened dimension.

The 8-week course takes place from 6–8.30pm weekly on Tuesdays from 14 February 2017 to 4 April 2017. Pre-payment is required to secure your booking.

Please be advised that from February 2017, Sydney Observatory’s paths and gardens will be undergoing some renovations to improve access to Sydney’s oldest observatory. During these works the Observatory will remain open day and night and Adult Astronomy courses will operate as normal. There may be a small impact on our other programs, events and tours but we aim to complete this project as quickly as possible and thank you for your understanding. Please contact us on sydneyobservatory@maas.museum or (02) 9217 0111 if you would like more information.
