Adult Astronomy Course: Exploring the Heavens

Duration: 2.5 hours
Courses starting May and July Sydney Observatory Book Tickets

Discover more about astronomy with a short course held at Sydney Observatory. These courses are suitable for adults and senior students (years 11 and 12).

This highly engaging introduction to astronomy provides a memorable understanding of the planets, stars and constellations of our night sky.

Popular astronomy educator Dr Paul Payne uses 3D virtual reality media to provide a history of astronomy and an exploration of different types of telescopes – some of which you’ll use to explore the night sky (weather permitting). Paul brings astronomy alive and contextualises the cosmos in a way that isn’t possible with a textbook or Powerpoint presentation.

The 5-week course takes place from 6–8.30pm weekly and the available course is:

  1. Tuesdays 24 July until 28 August 2018*
    • *Please note there is no class on 31 July. Course dates are as follows 24 July, 7 August, 14 August, 28 August
  2. Thursdays 26 July until 23 August 2018
  3. Tuesdays 4 September until 2 October 2018
