Inspired by an optimism for new utopias, Breaking Bread are a South African arts collective embracing community exchange through the customs, origins and ceremony of a shared meal. The collective, consisting of Ziphozenkosi ‘Zipho’ Dayile, Malesela Johannes Modiba, Unathi Silinga and Tobile Lwandle Ndenze in collaboration with a range of Sydney-based practitioners, will share their ethos of food and food sharing as a generative activity that can birth new understandings.
The Breaking Bread collective will undertake a residency at Sydney Observatory, facilitating the breaking down of boundaries while breaking bread, all the while having conversations with artists, creative practitioners and community groups. Join them on the last weekend of their residency to hear insights of what that experience has been like and what shared learning they have developed throughout the process.
