Award-winning musician and composer Jared Underwood will deliver an energetic bucket-drumming workshop encouraging young percussionists to explore rhythm and create their own music. Participants won’t need any special equipment as they learn to drum using a bucket, box or even their own lap.
The workshop will cover a few popular drum rudiments – small patterns of beats that make up the fundamentals of more complex drumming patterns. Jared will also demonstrate an improvised drum solo and lead interactive games. Participants will learn to improvise their own rhythmic soundscape, and the workshop will conclude with the group playing energetic rhythmic beats together in a bucket-drumming circle.
This workshop is suitable for ages 9–12 years. Don’t bring a thing, all equipment will be provided.
Afterwards, participants and their carers will have the opportunity to visit special exhibition Maton: Australia’s Guitar, which features 130 guitars traversing through genres such as country and western, folk, classical, rock ’n’ roll and jazz.
The workshop is free, but bookings are essential. Please note: due to COVID-19 restrictions parents may not attend.
