Ingrid Van der Wacht: Sustainable Futures

Wednesday 18 November 2015, 6.30–7.30pm Powerhouse Museum Book Tickets

‘We need to set goals to ensure the quality of life for current and future generations, in a way that respects our common heritage and the planet.’ Ingrid Van der Wacht

Designers and creators have a critical role to play in sustainable futures. Beyond the ‘elimination of negative environmental impact’, sustainable design must create projects that are a dynamic balance between economy and society. They must also generate long-term relationships between user and object/service that are respectful and mindful of the environmental and social differences.

Ingrid Van der Wacht, a Netherlands-based ‘conceptor, connector, communicator and collaborator’, will discuss the importance of co-design and the different tools from different disciplines that designers use to deliver practical solutions to real world problems. Ingrid will illustrate the role of designers by using examples from her own practice and projects for Dutch Design Week.

Doors open at 6:00 pm for a 6:30 pm start.

Ingrid van der Wacht’s Australian visit is supported by the DESIGN Canberra festival, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Dutch Creative Industries Fund NL.
