Planetarium

Please be advised that from February 2016, Sydney Observatory’s paths and gardens will be undergoing some renovations to improve access to Sydney’s oldest observatory. During these works the Observatory will remain open day and night. There may be a small impact on our programs, events and tours but we aim to complete this project as quickly as possible and thank you for your understanding. Please contact us on sydneyobservatory@maas.museum or (02) 9217 0111 if you would like more information.

See a new perspective on the night sky at Australia’s oldest observatory!

Our digital planetarium shows films about astronomy, the history of space flight, and much more. Witness constellations mapped out in front of your eyes. See the night sky majestically progressing from dusk to dawn in high speed. Discover when and where to look for bright planets.

You may hear Indigenous stories from the Murri and Boorong people about the Southern Cross or the Milky Way. Or feel transported aboard a spaceship to the surface of the Moon, a distant galaxy or across Mars on the Rover.

Our planetarium is suitable for all ages. Experience it as part of a night tour or day tour.
