Recollect: Toy Trains

Exhibition
6 June 2015–February 2016 Powerhouse Museum

Explore the wonderful miniature world of toy trains with this fascinating display showcasing more than 200 objects from our extensive collection.

See locomotives, carriages, buildings and accessories created in printed and painted tin plate dating from the 1890s, with the majority from the 1920s–1950s. See toy trains from popular British manufacturer Hornby, German makers Bing and Märklin, as well as an Australian Ferris ‘Red Rattler’ suburban train from the 1950s, alongside a working Gauge ‘0’ (1:45 ratio) train set by the company ACE.

Toy Trains is part of the MAAS Recollect series of displays, designed to share more of our extraordinary collection for all to see, study and enjoy. Objects are presented straight ‘out of the box’ with limited interpretation, inviting visitors to bring their own perspective, curiosity and creativity to what they see.
