Annotation

“Joanna identifies a problem that she has experienced personally and uses this to establish a genuine need. This is supported by initial research into existing designs that explores positive and negative features in relation to the problem. Ongoing evaluation leads to the justification of the need and provides a basis for further exploration. Joanna supports her findings with secondary research (page 3) to confirm that a solution to the problem is required on the basis of both social and environmental grounds. Common features of existing designs (page 4) are evaluated to determine important considerations for the final solution and provide direction for further action.”

Examination Criteria

Project Proposal and Project Management – Identification and exploration of the need

Marking Guideline

Identifies and provides a detailed exploration of genuine needs and opportunities, justifying the final selection for the development of the MDP

Annotation

“Alexandra selected appropriate and relevant functional and aesthetic criteria to effectively judge the success of her design solution. She uses a table to communicate this clearly in a succinct format, justifying each criteria by indicating how the level of success will be tested. There is a strong relationship between the criteria selected and the identified need, with excerpts from her design brief, to reinforce this and to link the two components together.”

Examination Criteria

Project Proposal and Project Management – Criteria to evaluate success

Marking Guideline

Establishes and analyses appropriate criteria to evaluate the success of the PSE

Annotation

“Ruby produced a quality design, which was evident through her final solution and the range of high-quality design and production processes undertaken. Ruby communicates this in her folio via a photographic sequence which validates how the design was produced. Each photograph is enhanced by evaluative annotations. Ruby draws attention to ongoing evaluation effectively by the use of colour, writing comments in green, which also complements the design solution of a greenhouse.”

Examination Criteria

Project Development and Realisation – Evidence and application of practical skills to produce a quality project

Marking Guideline

Applies a range of high-quality practical skills in the development of the PSE.

Annotation

“Jessica demonstrated authentic time, action and finance planning, annotating the proposed time plan (page 19) to reflect actual events via evaluative comments. Finance planning was realistic in relation to the need, with a proposed budget and actual costs provided. Jessica evaluates her plans, (page 23) reflecting upon those areas that required more time than originally thought. “

Examination Criteria

Project Proposal and Project Management – Action, time and finance plans and their application.

Marking Guideline

Formulates and evaluates well-documented action, time and finance plans with clear evidence of their application to the PSE

Annotation

“Bradley effectively documents in his folio the wide range of quality practical skills he has demonstrated throughout the design process. This includes planning sketches; circuit board diagrams; developing code; soldering and a range of production skills. Evidence of each skill is provided through a sequential, annotated photographic journal, which reflects the progress and realisation of the design solution. Folio records correlate with the high quality final design produced.”

Annotation

“Teagan utilises colour coding in her folio to demonstrate the use of ongoing evaluation, throughout the design process. Her effective use of evaluation allows her to draw conclusions which lead to the next design decision to be made. Teagan considers the positive and negative aspects of each component to be evaluated prior to confirming her choice, or rejecting ideas.”

Examination Criteria

Project Evaluation – Recording and application of evaluation procedures throughout the design process

Marking Guideline

Critically evaluates aspects of the PSE throughout its entire development
