Ships, Clocks and Observatory Stargazing

Friday 28 October, 6–9.30pm Sydney Observatory Book Tickets

Enjoy a unique experience with astronomer Fred Watson combining a curator led tour of Australian National Maritime Museum’s Ships, Clocks & Stars exhibition – one last time before it leaves the Museum – with a stargazing visit to Sydney Observatory.

Ships, Clocks & Stars tells the story of the search for navigating by finding longitude – distance east and west – that frustrated the greatest minds since the late 1400s. With Sydney Observatory being essential to shipping, navigation, meteorology and timekeeping in its early days, as well as to the study of the stars seen from the Southern Hemisphere – the Observatory’s exhibition includes a Matthew Flinders Chronometer and sextants as well as the Transit Circle Telescope – these two venues line-up perfectly.

The tour will conclude with stargazing and a light supper on this special evening.
