How much does it cost to become a MAAS Member?

MAAS Membership can cost anywhere between $50 a year to $115 a year.

Who qualifies for a concession membership?

You qualify for a concession membership if you are an international senior over 60 years of age or hold any of the cards listed below:

  • Seniors Card  (all states)
  • Australian Student Card
  • Centrelink Healthcare Card
  • Australian Government Pension Card
  • Australian Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card
  • If you live more than 150 km away from Sydney

In a household membership, if one person is eligible for concession and the other is not – which price would apply?

In this case the concession price will apply.

Why do I need to buy a household membership when children are admitted free to the Powerhouse Museum?

All children are admitted free of cost to general admission at the Powerhouse Museum. Apart from general admission, certain exhibitions are ticketed beyond general admission and may have an additional children’s entry fee. A MAAS Household Membership entitles you and all children covered by the MAAS Membership to free admission to our special exhibitions and to a discount for children’s entry to our premium exhibitions.

MAAS also runs some very popular school holiday programs and a large variety of kids-friendly events all through the year. These programs and events are usually ticketed. Your membership entitles you to a discount for these as well as priority booking to avoid disappointment as these book-out very quickly.

How do I become a MAAS Member?

There are various ways to sign up as a MAAS Member. You can sign up online, or call us on +61 (02) 9217 0600. You can even sign up as a member while visiting a MAAS venue, simply ask our staff about membership.

If you buy the membership at a MAAS venue, you are required to pay the amount in full at the front desk. You will receive a voucher with a unique identification and activation code. We require you to log in or sign up to the MAAS Store online and activate your membership using this unique code.  Follow the simple instructions on your voucher. This voucher code expires two weeks after purchase, so we recommend activating your membership as soon as you can. We will not be able to process and generate your membership card till you activate your membership online.

I am not a MAAS Member, can I buy a membership on the day?

Yes, you can buy your membership on the day and access all MAAS Membership Benefits immediately. You can also save time and buy a membership online.

How long is the MAAS Membership valid for?

Your MAAS Membership is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

How can I access my member benefits?

You can start accessing your member benefits as soon as you sign up. You can use your receipt as a proof of purchase until we process and send out your membership card.

You will receive your membership card via postal mail at the address listed on the membership. Your membership card should reach you two weeks after you have signed up as a member. If you haven’t received your membership card four weeks after you have signed up, please do get in touch with us, write to us at, or call us on +61 (02) 9217 0600.

How many people can visit on my membership?

If you are an Individual Member, only you can visit as a MAAS Member.

If you are a Household Member, 2 adults and up to 4 children can visit as MAAS Members.

2 adults can visit as part of this Membership – either 2 adults listed on the Membership, or 1 adult Member and 1 guest.

Can I bring a guest?

If you are an individual member you do not have the capacity to bring a guest for free.

2 adults can visit as part of Household Membership – either 2 adults listed on the Membership, or 1 adult Member and 1 guest.

As per MAAS policy, guests will not receive any other benefits apart from free general admission and access to Members Lounge at the Powerhouse Museum when accompanied by a MAAS Member. Guests will need to purchase entry to paid exhibitions.

How do I find out what paid temporary exhibitions are available to me as a MAAS Member?

Is there a limit on the number of times I can visit?

For general admission, there is no limit on the number of times you can visit.

Can Members gain express entry to all exhibitions and events at MAAS? 

No. Express entry for MAAS Members is only available for admission to the Powerhouse Museum. This does not include temporary exhibitions, premium exhibitions or special events due to the high number of visitors.

Where is the Members Lounge?

The Members Lounge is located in the Powerhouse Museum on Level 2, above the Interface Exhibition. The Members Lounge can be accessed via the Interface Exhibition on Level 2, or via the Ecologic Exhibition on Level 1. Follow the signs, take the exit on the right, and take the lift to Level 2. The lift can accommodate prams and strollers.

What facilities does the Members Lounge have?

The Members Lounge is a MAAS Members exclusive space to relax and unwind. The Members Lounge has a kitchen with a microwave and a fridge – both of which are available to use. We provide complimentary refreshments including a variety of tea, coffee and biscuits. Toilets are available at the Members Lounge, but do not have diaper changing facilities. The Members Lounge also has daily newspapers and a collection of MAAS catalogues and books.

How do I avail of my reciprocal benefits with other institutions?

We offer a range of benefits with reciprocal partner institutions across Australia and New Zealand, so make sure you carry your MAAS membership card when you travel. A complete list of these can be found here. Simply present your MAAS membership card to avail your benefits, including free entry to some partner institutions. Some institutions might ask for a Photo Identification along with your MAAS membership card.

How will I know about members-exclusive events?

All communication to members will happen via email. Your membership gives you a subscription to our fortnightly email newsletter that lists all events with a special focus on members-exclusive events. We also send emails about events separate to the newsletter.

I have lost my membership card. What do I do?

If you have lost or replaced your membership card, please call us on +61 (02) 9217 0600 or write to us A small charge may apply towards a replacement membership card.

How will I know when my membership expires?

Your membership card will have the expiry date of your membership and you will receive communication from us a few weeks before your membership expires.

How do I renew my membership?

It is easy to renew your membership. You could renew your membership online or call us on +61 (02) 9217 0600. Alternately, you can renew while visiting a MAAS site, simply ask our staff about membership.

Is my MAAS Membership transferrable?

No, MAAS Membership is not transferrable.
