How much does it cost to become a MAAS Member?
MAAS Membership can cost anywhere between $50 a year to $115 a year. Choose the right membership for you.
Who qualifies for a concession membership?
If you are a senior cardholder, pension card holder (including disability support and aged), Centrelink and Veterans Affairs cardholder, full time student or live more than 150km away from Sydney you are eligible for a concession.
The following post codes are inside the 150km zone and do not qualify for concession: Katoomba – 2780, Bowral – 2576, Lake Macquarie – 2265, Moss Vale – 2577, Kiama – 2533. The following post codes are outside the 150km zone and qualify for concession: Newcastle – 2300, Nowra – 2540, Bathurst – 2795, Goulburn – 2580.
In a household membership, if one person is eligible for concession and the other is not – which price would apply?
In this case the concession price will apply.
Why do I need to buy a household membership when children are admitted free at MAAS?
All children are admitted free of cost at MAAS. Apart from general admission, MAAS runs some very popular school holiday programs and a large variety of kids-friendly events all through the year. These programs and events are usually ticketed. Your membership entitles you to a discount for these as well as priority booking to avoid disappointment as these book-out very quickly. Certain exhibitions that are ticketed beyond general admission also have an additional children’s entry fee. The household membership allows children to go free to all exhibitions at all MAAS sites.
How do I become a MAAS Member?
There are various ways to sign up as a MAAS Member. You can sign up online. You can also download this form and send it back to us at email@example.com, or call us on +61 (02) 9217 0600. You can even sign up as a member while visiting a MAAS venue, simply ask our staff about membership.
If you buy the membership at a MAAS venue, you are required to pay the amount in full at the front desk. You will receive a voucher with a unique identification and activation code. We require you to log in or sign up to the MAAS Store online and activate your membership using this unique code. Follow the simple instructions on your voucher. This voucher code expires two weeks after purchase, so we recommend activating your membership as soon as you can. We will not be able to process and generate your membership card till you activate your membership online.
I am not a MAAS Member, can I buy a membership on the day and go for free?
Yes, you can buy your membership on the day and access the paid temporary exhibition at no extra cost. You can also save time and buy a membership online.
How long is the MAAS Membership valid for?
Your MAAS Membership is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

How can I access my member benefits?
You can start accessing your member benefits as soon as you sign up. You can use your receipt as a proof of purchase till we process and send out your membership card.
You will receive your membership card via postal mail at the address listed on the membership. Your membership card should reach you two weeks after you have signed up as a member. If you haven’t received your membership card four weeks after you have signed up, please do get in touch with us, write to us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call us on +61 (02) 9217 0600.
How many people can visit on my membership?
If you are an individual member, only you can visit as a MAAS Member. Families have many shapes and sizes: ours is 2 adults and up to 4 children 16 years and under at the same residential address. Two adults can visit as part of this Membership – either two adults listed on the Membership, or one adult Member and one guest.
Can I bring a guest?
If you are an individual member you do not have the capacity to bring a guest for free.

As per MAAS policy, guests will not receive any other benefits apart from free general admission and access to Members Lounge at the Powerhouse Museum when accompanied by a MAAS Member. Guests will need to purchase entry to paid exhibitions.
Do MAAS Members get free entry to all exhibitions?
All current MAAS Members receive free general admission and free exhibition admission included in their membership benefits. Membership needs to be current and valid on the day of the visit.
From time to time the Museum may also offer entry to our temporary exhibitions as part of a special event, for example, a late night opening. MAAS Members will still receive free exhibition during these events.
This does not include premium exhibitions, ticketed programs such as talks, tours and school holiday workshops, which will continue to offer an exclusive members discount.
I am a current MAAS Member and would like to visit a paid temporary exhibition. How do I do this?
Simply bring your new membership card along – the one with the barcode. This acts as your ticket to the exhibitions. You may also be asked to produce current photo ID.
Do I need to book tickets for special exhibitions?
No. Any exhibitions with a charge additional to general admission are now also free for MAAS Members. You will just need to show your membership card to receive entry to the next available session.
All efforts will be made to accommodate all MAAS Members with entry at their preference of date and time. Most paid temporary exhibitions will have session entries every half hour. Upon arrival you will be allocated to the next available session, which is typically immediate. During peak periods, such as weekends and school holidays there may be a small delay to your admission.

Is there a limit on the number of times I can visit?
As with general admission, there is no limit on the number of times you can visit paid temporary exhibitions at no extra cost as long as your membership is current and valid. This applies to general admission as well as to special, temporary exhibitions.
Where is the Members Lounge?
The Members Lounge is located in the Powerhouse Museum on Level 2, above the Interface Exhibition. The Members Lounge can be accessed via the Interface Exhibition on Level 2, or via the Ecologic Exhibition on Level 1. Follow the signs, take the exit on the right, and take the lift to Level 2. The lift can accommodate prams and strollers.
What facilities does the Members Lounge have?
The Members Lounge is a MAAS Members exclusive space to relax and unwind. The Members Lounge has a kitchen with a microwave and a fridge – both of which are available to use. We provide complimentary refreshments including a variety of tea, coffee and biscuits. Toilets are available at the Members Lounge, but do not have diaper changing facilities. The Members Lounge also has daily newspapers and a collection of MAAS catalogues and books.
How do I avail of my reciprocal benefits with other institutions?
We offer a range of benefits with reciprocal partner institutions across Australia and New Zealand, so make sure you carry your MAAS membership card when you travel. A complete list of these can be found here. Simply present your MAAS membership card to avail your benefits, including free entry to some partner institutions. Some institutions might ask for a Photo Identification along with your MAAS membership card.

How will I know about members-exclusive events?
All communication to members will happen via email. Your membership gives you a subscription to our monthly email newsletter that lists all events with a special focus on members-exclusive events. We also send emails about events separate to the newsletter.
I have lost my membership card. What do I do?
If you have lost or replaced your membership card, please call us on +61 (02) 9217 0600 or write to us email@example.com. A small charge may apply towards a replacement membership card.
How will I know when my membership expires?
Your membership card will have the expiry date of your membership and you will receive communication from us a few weeks before your membership expires.
How do I renew my membership?
It is easy to renew your membership. You could renew your membership online or call us on +61 (02) 9217 0600. Alternately, you can renew while visiting a MAAS site, simply ask our staff about membership.
Is the membership transferrable?
No, MAAS Membership is not transferrable.
