Large sunspot on Sun imaged by Monty Leventhal
Unfortunately yesterday morning the clouds stayed in place and allowed only a few very brief glimpses of the event. Some visitors did see Mercury during those gaps in the clouds while other saw part of the live webcast from Japan that was shown at the Observatory’s frontdesk.
In the meantime a large sunspot has just rotated into view near the edge of the Sun. This is shown in the above image by solar observer and member of the Sydney City Skywatchers, Monty Leventhal.
