Sir

My absence from Sydney has prevented an earlier reply to your letter of Nov 30th. Your salary to Sept 30 was placed in the Bank to your credit as requested what is the defect in the scales?

When the rain-gauge without the funnel top is hung on empty, the scales should just balance, but if your raingauge is not prepared to hang on; then for the evaporation if does not matter if the scale is heavier on one side than the other as this does not affect the results, being the same every day; and we only take the differences between the weighings.
