My dear Sir

On Receipt of your letter about the Ball I complained to Mr Cracknell that the Ball at Newcastle was not dropped by wire but by hand thereby causing ?? ??& Mr Rollins?? Replied to Mr Cracknell as enclosed. Will you please let me know whether what you stated in your letter about its being dropped by hand is your own Knowledge as it is most important that the public should not learn to distrust the Ball time it would then be useless and I do not think it would be desirable to continue it.

Yours very truly
