April 19 1858
My Dear Sir
I shall be happy to lend you our instrument at Gabo Island until such time as you can conveniently replace them; which however I hope you will do, as I have no funds for the purchase of additional instruments and I shall like to raise the number of our observatories to twelve as was first intended.
I have delayed sending you any of our observations in consequence of their imperfect character, but now send all that has been done up to the end of January 58, and will continue to do so as they make their appearance.
I am Dear Sir
R B Smyth Esquire
