The Moon Turns Blood Red!

The weather forecast was not good but many people braved the rainy conditions to enjoy breakfast and the possibility of a total lunar eclipse early this morning. All were not disappointed as gaps between the clouds and rain showers provided wonderful views of the eclipsed Moon.

As predicted the totality was dark, much darker than the coppery-red totalities that have been seen in recent years. The dark red Moon provided a striking contrast to the clouds and city backdrop and everyone went away having enjoyed this wonderful phenomenon.

We are all eagerly looking forward to the next total lunar eclipse and we won’t have to wait long – 10 December 2011.

  • The weather conditions were much the same here in Perth. What a brilliant sight as the moon played peek-a-boo with us behind the clouds! I am quite surprised how dark she became at totality. She was quite difficult to photograph. Well, my boys have left for school, so I’m going back to bed. And I look forward to clearer skies in December for the next lunar eclipse!
