The astronomical highlight of 2013 is the annular eclipse of the Sun on Friday 10 May. An annular eclipse occurs when the Moon is in a distant part of its path so that it does not fully cover the Sun and leaves a thin ring or annulus of light around its edge. The eclipse will be best seen from northern Australia.
