Daily cosmobite: Mercury and the new Moon

Mercury and a thin crescent Moon on the evening of 27 August 2014Over the last few evenings the elusive planet Mercury has become visible low in the west after dusk. Tonight a very thin crescent Moon can be seen above and to the left or south of the planet. This is the first opportunity to see the crescent after the instant of new Moon that occurred just after midnight on Tuesday morning.
