Asteroid 4766 Malin, named after renowned Australian astrophotographer David Malin, has its closest approach to Earth today. However it is still 1.5 times further from us than is the Sun. The real David appears below at the opening of the 2014 Winning Sky Photos exhibition. The exhibition is on display at Sydney Observatory until 2 November before travelling around Australia.
