63 Janry 8th 0 Dear Sir I am much obliged to you For sending me in your letter of Dec 22 a copy of your letter to the Age. The views you have there expressed for the most part agree with my own: but I have never been able to find any evidence to bear out the statement in your letter that “All Meteorologists will readily admit that it is impossible to in any way operate upon the distribution of surface moisture without directly affecting the distribution of rainfall.” Indeed experience seems to …… …… Exactly opposite conclusion.

232 Sydney Observatory 5 January 1870 My dear Sir I have recently made an effort to collect information about the rainfall of this Colony prior to 1840: and have enough to satisfy me that meteorological observations were taken at the Parramatta Observatory, but such as I have so far obtained is quite insufficient for my purpose which is if possible to trace back to the early days of the colony a rainfall period which is manifest in more recent years.

Nov 24th 9 The Govt Printer Dear Sir In the last lot of Monthly Returns two came like the inclosed; without the curves. It would of course destroy the value of the Return to any one receiving it without the curves, and we have always before taken it for granted that if one was right; then the next were.

754 Government Observatory Sydney 1st July 1874 Sir I have the honor to request authority to alter the boundaries of the Observatory enclosures in accordance with the plan approved by the Observatory Board so that the portion of Flagstaff Reserve enclosed for the Observatory and Signal Station may be of the form and dimensions indicated by the green line in the Tracing of Plan herewith.

753 Government Observatory Sydney 1st July 1874 Sir I have the honor to request that authority may be given to the Director of the Botanic Gardens and the Astronomer to expend in planting the Flagstaff Reserve the money voted in the Estimates for this year for that purpose, and that in the absence of Mr Moore I may be authorized to go on with the work so that no time may be lost in planting the trees.

Copy of entry in Note Book 1A June 26th 1877 in handwriting of H. C. R. Microscope the divisions correct at 330 degrees get gradually wrong to 316 degrees where the divisions are about 11’ in error.
