315 Sydney Observatory 3 March 1871 Sir Amongst the papers left by the late Astronomer I found the enclosed accounts A. B & C and not being able to learn certainly whether the amounts £3.5.0 A and £1.6.4 B: were paid or not, I wrote to Mr Stewart of the Kew Observatory requesting a statement of his account against this Observatory and received the enclosed letter dated November 9 1871 in reply: As the Vote for New Instruments 1870 is almost exhausted, I have the honor to request that these amounts £3.5.0 & £1.6.4 may be paid to the Kew Observatory out of the Vote for New Instruments 1871.
