Many collections hold Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander cultural material but museum or gallery staff are unsure about the processes involved in making sure that these objects are registered, stored and managed with integrity and in observance of appropriate protocols. During this workshop the Powerhouse’s ATSI Collection Manager will guide participants through the Museum’s ICIP Protocol and provide advice on ways forward that ensure best practice in custodial care and the Powerhouse Head of Indigenous Engagement & Strategy will provide an overview of the AmaGA Indigenous Roadmap – a 10 year plan for the GLAM sector ensuring greater inclusion of Indigenous cultural perspectives across museums, libraries, archives and galleries in Australia.
This workshop has been designed for museum staff and volunteers, the collecting sector and interested members of the public. A light lunch is included, followed by a one-hour tour of I Store, a state-of-the-art storage facility containing the Powerhouse collection. Gain behind the scenes access from a Powerhouse Registrar and learn about how the facility has been designed to house objects in optimum conditions
