Vandi Verma with rovers

Getting a Martian driving licence with Vandi Verma Tompkins (JPL)

Vandana “Vandi” Verma grew up India before her exploration in artificial intelligence led her on a journey where she now drives the Curiosity rover on Mars. While at Carnegie Mellon University Vandi designed a robot to compete with other robots to collect balloons in a maze. This led her to become intrigued at how to control robots in environments where there is so much uncertainty like Mars. Vandi is now developing the autonomous systems for the Mars 2020 mission. This is an opportunity become inspired and learn about how robots “think”.

Both standards based video conferences and standard video chat (via a web browser) are supported. This video conference is interactive and learners are encouraged to send in questions in advance.
