As an extension of the Hybrid Commission, UNSW Bachelor of Design students were invited to collaborate on the design and development of objects for homes in 2030. The Hybrid brief invited students to design objects in response to a problem they identified through the interrogation of contemporary urban design from technological, anthropological and scientific perspectives. These responses considered current and future urban conditions such as; increased density, poor air quality, rising temperatures, fossil fuel reliance, multi-generational households, reduced tactility in the digital age and bad news fatigue.
Showcased below are ten individual and three Studio Collective finalists selected by Stephen Todd, Creative Director Sydney Design Week 2020 and Keinton Butler, Senior Curator Museum Applied Arts and Sciences. Find out more about the collaboration with UNSW.
